Box Score (KIRKSVILLE, Mo., Oct. 20)- The McKendree University men's soccer team lost on a converted penalty kick in double overtime on Sunday at Truman State University 3-2.
The Bearcats fall to 3-10-1 overall and 1-10-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the loss, and will host University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the 49th minute when a clear attempt by McKendree found went into the goal.
Sophomore forward
Alex Ridsdale (Nelson, New Zealand/Mount Albert) had a shot blocked in the 77th minute, but junior midfielder
Cody Fritsche (High Ridge, Mo./Lutheran South) was there to clean it up and tied the game, 1-1, with a shot that went just under the crossbar.
The Bulldogs regained the lead, 2-1, in the 85th minute with a goal off of a corner kick, but Ridsdale knotted the game up, 2-2, in the 89th minute off an assist from junior forward
C.J. Cerna (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) to send it to overtime.
Neither team could convert in the first overtime period, but a Truman State shot deflected off a McKendree defender's hand in the 102nd minute to earn a penalty kick opportunity. The kick was successful to end the game 3-2.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Matt Derrington (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) fell to 0-3 overall on the season and had five saves in the loss.
