Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 27)- The McKendree University men's soccer team scored two first half goals on its way to a 2-0 shutout win over Maryville University on Sunday.
The Bearcats improved to 4-11-1 overall and 2-11-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the win and will host University of Illinois-Springfield on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m., for its season finale. The team will also celebrate senior night prior to the contest.
Sophomore midfielder
Liam Robley (Lazonby, Cumbria, England/Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) put McKendree in the lead, 1-0, in the 17th minute on a free kick from 20 yards out that beat the Saints keeper to the near post.
Freshman defender
Callum Kiddell (Auckland, New Zealand/Mount Albert Grammar School) took advantage of a misplayed pass by Maryville in the 21st minute and beat a defender to score and extend the Bearcats lead to 2-0.
The Saints had two shots on goal in the second half, but both were saved to perserve the shutout. Sophomore goalkeeper
Matt Derrington (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) improved to 1-4 overall this season and had one save in the shutout win.
