Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 6)- The McKendree University men's soccer team couldn't convert on scoring opportunities on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to No. 8 Lewis University.
The Beacats fall to 2-7-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the loss. McKendree will travel to Renssalaer, Ind., on Friday, Oct. 11 to face Saint Joseph's College at 7:30 p.m.
The Flyers struck twice in under a minute to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Cristhian Ramierez scored off a long pass in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Ramierez then found Ivan Surlina off a corner kick in the 15th minute to go up 2-0.
McKendree had two opportunities in the 44th minute to score but couldn't convert. Sophomore forward
Byron Cipa (Essex, London, England/The Campion School) had his initial shot saved, and put a foot on his own rebound following a bobble by the goalkeeper, but the shot went wide left.
The Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the 52nd minute on a goal by junior defender
Connor Cassidy (Glasgow, Scotland/St. Andrews) to cut the deficit to 2-1. McKendree took 15 shots in the second half, but only placed two on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Matt Derrington (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) fell to 0-1 overall on the season with the loss.
