From there, McKendree took control by scoring the next 11 points to build an 18-7 margin. Fairman had three kills during the decisive run for the Bearcats. McKendree eventually stretched the lead to as many as 13 points and withstood a late spurt by Missouri S & T to grab a two-set lead.
The third set started much like the previous one. The Bearcats stormed to an 8-1 lead before Missouri S & T chipped away and used a 7-2 burst to rally within 10-7. The Miners pulled even at 13-13 before a kill by sophomore outside hitter
Hannah Wessel (Waterloo, IL/Gibault Catholic) gave McKendree the lead for good. The Bearcats scored six of the next seven points – with two kills each from Wessel and Kampwerth – to stretch the lead back to 19-14.
