McKendree Volleyball Storms to Fourth Straight Win, Sweeps William Jewell in GLVC Play

Box Score (LIBERTY, Mo., Nov. 9)—The McKendree University volleyball team swept its way past William Jewell in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match on Saturday in Liberty, Mo. The Bearcats won the best-of-five match by scores of 27-25, 25-18 and 25-21.
 
McKendree pushed its season-high win streak to four consecutive matches with the triumph at William Jewell. The Bearcats improve to 11-16 overall and 6-8 in the GLVC. McKendree will put its streak to the test Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Bearcats visit Rockhurst University to close out a weekend trip to the Kansas City area. The Hawks ranked No. 25 in the latest AVCA coaches' poll, grabbed a one-game lead in the GLVC West Division standings Saturday with a sweep of the University of Illinois Springfield.
 
A pair of sophomore middle hitters led the way offensive for McKendree in the win at William Jewell. Rachel Nelson (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista South) posted a team-high 11 kills and hit .529 in the contest. Lauren Apetz (Glenwood, FL/DeLand) was not far behind with 10 attacks and registered a .562 hitting percentage. As a team, McKendree hit .320 against the Cardinals.
 
Senior libero Maddie Kelly (Lake Saint Louis, MO/Timberland) chipped in with a match-high 24 digs. Freshman setter Brianna Howe led all players with 21 assists, and freshman setter Aubry Dickmann (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) contributed 17 sets.
 
Christina Pratt led William Jewell (4-23, 2-12 GLVC) with nine kills, while Cailynn Hayter notched 14 assists. Katie Damgar handled 16 digs for the Cardinals, who have dropped their last four contests.
 
McKendree and William Jewell were meeting for the first time on the volleyball court since the 2006 season.
