Ponce and Willis Score In Double-Figures, But Bearcats Fall At Wisconsin-Parkside 81-55

Box Score (SOMERS, Wis., Feb. 14)- The McKendree University women's basketball team trailed by seven at the half, but couldn't overcome a second half dry spell and fell at University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 81-55, on Thursday night.

The Bearcats fall to 7-15 overall and 2-12 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, and will travel to Romeoville, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 16 to face Lewis University at 5 p.m.

Sophomore Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led McKendree with 16 points, while junior guard Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) was the only other Bearcat to score in double figures with 11 points. Ponce's two three-pointer's in the contest gave her 54 on the season, moving her into a tie with Katie Hasheider and Brandi Higgins' season totals from the 2004-05 and 1992-93 seasons, respectively, for fourth place all-time for a single season in a single season at McKendree. Ponce has four games left to surpass Jacque Clark's single-season record of 62 during the 2003-04 season. Freshman guard Ashley Klass (Evansville, Ind./Evansville North) led McKendree on the glass with a career-high seven rebounds.

The Rangers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, but three-pointer's by Ponce and feshman guard Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) on the next two possessions cut the score to 7-6.

Wisconsin-Parkside extended its lead out to 24-14 with 10:51 left in the half, but McKendree outscored the hosts 9-1 following a 30-second timeout to reduce its deficit to 26-23 at the 6:52 mark fo the first half.

Trailing 40-29 with 2:31 left in the half, Willis buried jumpers on the next two possessions to close out the half and cut the score to 40-33 at the half.

McKendree got as close as 48-42 with 15:30 left in the game, but Wisconsin-Parkside soon extended its lead to double-digits, 61-46, at the 11:19 mark.

A jumper by Ponce made the score 61-48, but the the hosts went on a 13-0 run to build a large lead and put the game out of reach for the Bearcats.

Jenna Endisch led all players with 22 points for the Rangers.
