Collins Sets Two Single Game School Records, Bearcats Edged By Adams State 15-12

Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., March 16)- McKendree University freshman midfielder Sarah Collins (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) tallied nine points, including six goals, on Saturday in a 15-12 loss to visiting Adams State University.

The Bearcats fall to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, and will host University of Findlay on Sunday at noon.

Collins' six goals and nine points in the game set single-game marks for the first-year program. Freshman attacker/defender Rianne Holzmeyer (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) and freshman midfielder Bree Suter (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each added two goals in the loss. Freshman midfielder Shirley Boland (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) also set a school record with seven draw controls in the contest.

The game was back-and-forth for the entire 60 minutes, and neither team led by more than three goals.

Trailing 3-1 with just over 21 minutes to play in the first half, the Bearcats took a 4-3 lead following three-straight goals in a span of four minutes. Holzmeyer cut the deficit to 3-2 on an unassisted goal at the 13:40 mark, and Collins scored on back-to-back free position attempts to give McKendree its first lead of the game with 9:43 left in the half.

A goal by freshman attacker Krystin Major (Arnold, Md./Indian Creek) gave McKendree a 6-4 lead with 5:02 left until the half, but the Grizzlies scored three goals in the final four minutes to lead 7-6 lead at the break.

The Bearcats regained the lead 8-7 on goals by Collins and Holzmeyer to open the second half, but Adams State scored three goals to retake the lead 10-8. McKendree came within 12-11 with 7:35 remaining on Collins' sixth goal of the game, but the Grizzlies scored three of the final four goals of the game to secure the win.
