(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 13)--For the second straight weekend, the McKendree University volleyball squad will face a stiff challenge in tournament play. The Bearcats will be in Warrensburg, Mo., Friday and Saturday for the Peggy Martin Challenge hosted by the University of Central Missouri. McKendree will play a pair of matches each day, beginning with a test against the host squad from the University of Central Missouri at 1 p.m. on Friday. The match will be available on a pay-per-view basis for $8.

In addition to the host Jennies, McKendree will take on Winona State University on Friday evening before wrapping up their stay in west central Missouri with Saturday contests against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Minnesota State University Moorhead.

McKendree enters the weekend with a 1-3 record, which was the mark posted by the Bearcats in the season-opening Hemingway's Invitational in Pensacola, Fla., last week. The Bearcats received some strong performances in Florida from a pair of freshman. Bailey Kampwerth (Breese, IL/Mater Dei) registered double digits in kills in all four matches, totaling 46 in all. Setter Rebecca Nauman (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville) handed out 126 assists in the four contests. Sophomore Hannah Wessel (Waterloo, IL/Gibault Catholic) contributed 28 attacks in the Hemingway's Invitational, while freshman Sophie Fairman (Staunton, IL/Staunton) connected for 26 kills and nine blocks on the weekend.

The Bearcats will be tested right out of the gate at the Peggy Martin Challenge by taking on Central Missouri, the No. 7-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II poll. The Jennies are 5-0 on the year, sweeping all four of their matches last week at the Hilltopper-Rattler Classic in Texas before downing Winona State Thursday evening in the first match of the Peggy Martin Challenge, 3-0.

Winona State will bring a 2-3 record into Friday's play at Central Missouri. The Warriors are led by Bekah Saugen, who has 64 kills early in the 2013 season, while Katie Froehle has added 47 attacks, 69 digs and eight service aces. McKendree and Winona State will meet Friday at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, McKendree will take on Colorado-Colorado Springs at noon. The Mountain Lions sport a 3-1 overall record before this weekend's play. UCCS is paced by Kim Catlett with 46 kills, while Jornan Banich is close behind with 41 kills. Grace Gordon has handed out 156 assists through four matches for the Mountain Lions.

The Bearcats will close their visit to the Peggy Martin Challenge with a 6 p.m. contest on Saturday against Minnesota State-Moorhead. The Dragons swept their way through four matches at the Winona State Tournament last weekend. Amber Krenske picked up tournament MVP honors by recording 83 digs. Kaitlin VanWinkle added 47 kills and 16 blocks in the effort for Minnesota State-Moorehead.
