Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 8)- The McKendree women's soccer team exploded for three second half goals on Sunday in their home opener to earn a 3-1 win over Baker University.
The Bearcats improve to 1-1 overall and will travel to St. Louis, Mo., on Tuesday, Sept. 10 to face Missouri Baptist University at CBC High School at 11:30 a.m.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore forward
Alyssa Patterson (Troy, Ill./Triad) scored on a pass from senior defender
Allie Hayes (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) to give McKendree a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute.
Senior forward
Chealsey Russell (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) scored two goals in just over a 2:30 span to extend the Bearcats' lead. Her first came off an assist from Patterson in the 70th minute, and she struck again unassisted in the 72nd minute to push the lead out to 3-0.
Baker scored their only goal of the game in the 82nd minute to make the score 3-1.
Senior goalkeeper
Maggie Dudas (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) improved to 1-1 overall on the season and had one save on the day.
