(DES MOINES, IOWA)- The No. 13 McKendree University women's wrestling team posted a 1-1 record on the first day of competition at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Bearcats earned a 35-1 victory over No. 14 Midland University in the opening round, but dropped a 45-2 decision to top-seeded King College (Tenn.) in the second round to drop into the consolation bracket. McKendree will face No. 8 Missouri Valley College at 9 a.m., on Sunday.

McKendree won all its matches in its opening dual against Midland, including pinfall wins by freshmen Lindsey Spjut (Montgomery, Texas/The Woodlands) and Robin Torres (Rowland Heights, Calif./John A. Rowland) at 123 and 155 pounds, and graduate student Sonia Beri (San Jose, Calif./Mt. Pleasant) at 143 pounds. Freshman Diana Neverez also picked up bonus points with a tech fall victory at 130 pounds. Freshmen Gabrielle Wehyrich and Andrea Ruiz (Covina, Calif./Northview) also both earned decision wins at 136 and 170 pounds.

McKendree picked up points in its loss to No. 1 King in tech fall losses at 116 and 130 pounds.
