LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 25)—The McKendree University hockey team dropped a 4-3 overtime decision on Friday night at Robert Morris University-Peoria.
Freshman forward
Brett Maggio (Collinsville, IL/Triad) scored the first two goals of his McKendree career, but the Bearcats could not hold off the host Eagles in suffering their second overtime defeat of the season. McKendree is now 5-6-2 on the year and will wrap up their weekend stay in Peoria Saturday evening with another contest against the Eagles.
Senior forward Matt Seelbach started the scoring for McKendree at the 5:20 mark of the first period, with the assists going to Maggio and sophomore forward
Andrew Falls (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood). Maggio then netted his first goal of the night with less than three minutes to play in the period. Falls picked up his second assist of the game on Maggio's tally.
Maggio then scored the Bearcats' final goal of the night with 2:53 remaining in the second period, again thanks to a pass from Falls. Trailing 3-0, Robert Morris-Peoria scored three times in a span of 3:02 in the early stages of the third period to tie the game at 3-3. The Eagles then needed just 15 seconds of overtime to record the game-winner.
Freshman
