(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 27)—The McKendree University hockey team gained a weekend split on the road against Robert Morris University-Peoria with a 7-5 victory Saturday afternoon at the Owens Center in Peoria.
Junior forward
Carlos Galvan (Mulvane, KS/Mulvane) led the way for McKendree with two goals and three assists as the Bearcats improved to 6-6-2 on the year. McKendree will close out the 2013-14 regular season in Springfield, Mo., with a pair of games against Missouri State University on Friday and Saturday. Friday's face-off is set for 9:45 p.m., while the Saturday contest is set for a 3 p.m. start.
Sophomore forward
Jacob Schlote (House Springs, MO/Hillsboro) helped out against Robert Morris-Peoria with a goal and two assists, while sophomore forward
Andrew Falls (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) handed out three assists. Junior forward
Elliot Emann (Washington, Mo./Washington) scored twice in the third period to help the Bearcats snap a 5-5 tie.
McKendree had one of its most productive nights of the season on the power play, scoring five of its seven goals with a man advantage.
After Robert Morris-Peoria jumped out to a 1-0 lead, senior forward
Andrew Olden (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) tallied an unassisted goal with 13:36 left in the first period to tie the contest at 1-1. The host Eagles then regained a 2-1 lead before Galvan netted the first of the Bearcats' power play goals at the 6:49 mark to knot the score once again. Robert Morris-Peoria jumped back in front late in the period when freshman defenseman
Evan Franklin (Alton, IL/Alton) scored off a pass from Galvan with just five seconds left in the stanza to send the teams into the locker room knotted at 3-3.
Galvan's second goal of the night, a power play tally midway through the second period, gave McKendree its first lead of the night at 4-3. The Eagles tied the game two minutes later before Schlote found the back of the net with 3:46 left in the period to push the Bearcats back in front at 5-4. Robert Morris-Peoria tied the score early in the third period before the Bearcats took control.
Emann netted the final power play goal of the contest for McKendree with 10:40 to play to give the Bearcats a 6-5 lead. Galvan and Franklin were credited with the assists. With just over five minutes remaining, Emann added an insurance goal to give McKendree a two-goal cushion.
