Felipe Thompson (Santiago, Chile/Hurricane High School) scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute on Friday to lead the McKendree University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at University of Southern Indiana.
The Bearcats improve to 5-8-2 overall and 5-7-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will host Bellarmine University on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 2:30 p.m., for the final home game of the season. McKendree will honor its seniors in a ceremony prior to the game as part of senior day festivities.
The Eagles struck first in the contest and took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on a goal by Colton Tanner. Thompson went on to tie the game in the 19th minute with his second goal of the season on an assist by sophomore midfielder

The Bearcats held the Eagles offense in check in the second half, outshooting the hosts 7-1, but were unable to take the lead to send the game to overtime. Thompson ended the game in the 92nd minute on an assist from senior defender
Connor Cassidy (Glasgow, Scotland/St. Andrews), his third goal of the season and first career game-winning goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Scott Armistead (Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Peter's College) improved to 5-7-2 overall and had three saves in the win.
