(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 7)- The No. 6 McKendree University wrestling team opened up its dual schedule on Friday by shutting out Missouri Baptist University 46-0.

The Bearcats improved to 1-0 overal on the season and will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., on Nov. 16 to compete at the University of Central Missouri Open.

McKendree earned forfeit wins at 141 and 149 pounds to jump out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back. Senior Josh Ballard (Troy, Ill., Triad), the No. 7ranked wrestler in NCAA II at 157 pounds, opened his season with a 9-2 win over Elmer Francisco. Junior Andrew Krawulski (Lawrenceville, Ga., Collins Hill) followed with with a 15-7 major decision win over Windsor Eaves at 165 pounds to push the lead out to 19-0.

Senior Nick Haferkamp (Lincoln, Ill., Lincoln Community), ranked No. 2 at 165 pounds, wrestled up a class at 174 pounds and earned 5-3 decision win over Andrew Carter-Johnson, while senior John Vogt (Festus, Mo., Ste. Genevieve), ranked No. 6 at 184 pounds, earned a 10-4 decision win over Jeffrey Brock to extend the lead to 25-0.

Senior Luis Alba (Kissimmee, Fla., Cypress Creek), ranked No. 7 at 174 pounds, competed at 197 pounds and pinned Kyle Benz (Pacific, Mo./Northwest) in 3:32, before senior Ross Janney (Daleville, Ind., Yorktown) edged Luis Contreras, 4-3, in the second sudden victory round to make the score 34-0.

Senior Jose Torres (Cicero, Ill., Morton East) and sophomore Ryan Strope (Westphalia, Mo., Fatima) both earned pinfall wins at 125 and 133 pounds give the Bearcats the 46-0 win.
