Men’s Volleyball Team Completes Perfect Weekend with Sweep of Culver-Stockton

Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 15)—The McKendree men's volleyball team won its second home match in as many nights by sweeping a best-of-five contest Saturday against Culver-Stockton College at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. The Bearcats rolled to victory by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-19.
 
The back-to-back wins boost the Bearcats' season record to 3-12 overall. McKendree will hit the road Tuesday for a match at Quincy University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Pepsi Arena.
 
Freshman middle blocker Wyatt Patterson (Flossmoor, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) and freshman outside hitter Andy Schnittker shared team-high honors with seven kills each for McKendree. Freshman outside hitter Dustin Borenstein (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) and freshman right-side hitter Eric Abrolat (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) each added five attacks for the Bearcats. Freshman setter Jack MacLean helped out with a match-high 36 assists in the win for McKendree.
 
Culver-Stockton (2-10) held an early lead in the first set before McKendree used a 6-1 run to take a 9-6 advantage. The Bearcats were able to maintain their lead although the Wildcats clawed back to within two points twice during the set. McKendree took control early in the second set thanks to a 9-2 spurt that pushed the squad out to a 15-5 lead. Borenstein had a kill and service ace during the run for the Bearcats.
 
McKendree never trailed in the third and final set, with its largest lead coming at 17-10 after a Wildcats' attack error. Culver-Stockton chipped away at the deficit and came as close as four points before Patterson finished off the sweep with a service ace on match point.
 
Nick Regester had a match-high 11 kills to lead the way for Culver-Stockton. Grant Thompson added 22 assists and seven digs for the Wildcats.
