Box Score (SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Feb. 27)- The McKendree University women's basketball team finished its season on Thursday with an 83-78 win at University of Illinois at Springfield.
The Bearcats ended their season with an overall record of 9-17 overall and 4-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Junior guard 
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led McKendree with 26 points, while junior forward 
Danielle Amann-Stewart (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) scored a career-high 25 points. Ponce had a season-high seven three-pointers in the game and set a new school record with 65 threes this season after tying the previous mark of 62 last season. Her career total of 167 three-pointers is ranked third all-time in program history. Senior guard 
Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) scored 10 points, the 60th double-digit scoring effort of her collegiate career, to finish her career at McKendree. Willis ended her career ranked seventh all-time for the Bearcats with 274 career free throws made and ranked 13th with 1,093 career points.
McKendree trailed by as many as six early in the first half, but battled back to take a 29-26 lead with 4:30 left in the half. The Prairie Stars responded and took a 38-32 lead into the half.
The Bearcats trailed 52-45 with just under 13 minutes left in the game and tied the game, 66-66, with 5:21 left to play. A layup by freshman forward 
Shannon McGinnis (Niles, Ill./Trinity) gave McKendree a 75-74 edge with 1:34 left and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to earn the comeback win.
Megan Bergerud led all players with 31 points for the Prairie Stars in the loss.
