Box Score (ROMEOVILLE, Ill., Feb. 7)—The McKendree University men's volleyball team was defeated in three sets Friday night at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. The Bearcats dropped the best-of-five match by scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14.
McKendree slips to 1-9 on the year. The Bearcats will wrap up a quick two-match northern road trip Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they visit Loyola University-Chicago. McKendree will then return home for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center against Grand Canyon University. Lewis, ranked No. 10 in the latest AVCA Division I-II poll, improves to 8-3 on the year.
Freshman right-side hitter
Eric Abrolat (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) and freshman outside hitter Mike Polizzi each had a team-leading four kills in Friday's match at Lewis. Freshman setter Jack MacLean handed out 16 assists, while freshman libero
Brice Miller (O'Fallon, IL/Althoff Catholic) recorded a team-best five digs for McKendree.
Lewis broke open a close first set with a 5-1 run to build a 12-4 lead midway through the set. McKendree scored consecutive points before the Flyers reeled of six straight points to push the margin to 18-6. Lewis closed strong by taking the final seven points to grab a 1-0 lead in the match.
The teams battled back and forth in the early stages of the second set before Lewis posted five points in a row to take a 14-7 lead. The Flyers pushed their lead to as many as 12 points before taking the second set. Lewis then put the match away by racing to an 11-4 lead in the third and final set. McKendree eventually clawed back as close as 15-9 following a kill by Abrolat, but the Flyers held on to finish off the sweep.
Tom Logan led a balanced attack for Lewis with nine kills, while Scott Fifer handed out a match-high 24 assists for the Flyers.
