Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., April 11)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team lost its first night game of the year on Friday to visiting Colorado Mesa University 13-3.
The Bearcats fall to 2-6 overall and will travel to Saint Charles, Mo., to face No. 5 Lindenwood University on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
Sophomore attacker
Rianne Holzmeyer (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) led the Bearcats with two goals, while freshman midfielder
Morgan Cremen (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) had one goal. Sophomore attacker Kyrstin Major and sophomore midfielder
Shirley Boland (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) each had one assist. Sophomore goalie
Kelly Eastman (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) had 14 saves, but fell to 1-2 overall in goal with the loss.
After trailing 1-0 in the early going, the Bearcats tied the game on Cremen's goal off a pass from Boland just under three minutes into the game. Holzmeyer put McKendree in the lead 2-1 shortly after with a goal off an assist by Major, but the Mavericks regained the lead 4-2 with 19 minutes to play in the opening half. The Bearcats cut the deficit to 4-3 on Holzmeyer's second goal of the game with 15:25 left in the first half, but the Mavericks jumped out to a 9-3 lead at the break and held on for the 13-3 win.
Ashley Eickoff led the Mavericks with four goals.
