Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Sep. 26)- The McKendree University women's soccer team converted two penalty kicks in the opening six minutes and added two second half goals to earn a 4-0 win over University of Indianapolis.
The Bearcats improve to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will host Saint Joseph's College on Sunday, Sep. 28 at noon.
McKendree got out to a quick start with two successful penalty kicks in the first six minutes of play. Junior midfielder
Alyssa Patterson (Troy, Ill./Triad) was fouled in the box on a breakaway to ern the first penalty kick. Junior
Jordyn Reiniger (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) stepped up and converted the kick to put the Bearcats up 1-0 in the fifth minute.
The Greyhounds got called for a handball in the box in the sixth minute to bring on another penalty kick for McKendree. Reiniger got it past the goalkeeper for the second time to put the Bearcats in front 2-0.
Shortly after the half, Patterson scored her first goal of the season off a pass from senior
Liz Kaiser (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) in the 47th minute to extend the lead to 3-0, and freshman midfielder
Rachel Kaltwasser (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic) scored her second goal of the season off Kaiser's second assist of the game to give McKendree its fourth and final of the game.
Junior goalkeeper
Taylor Zerbe (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) posted her second-straight shutout of the season and had three saves, while improving to 3-1 overall this season.
