(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 23)- The No. 7 McKendree University men's wrestling team picked up bonus points in seven of its nine wins on Friday in a 39-4 win over Truman State University.

The Bearcats improve to 11-4 overall and will face No. 1 Maryville University for a dual match on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. in Edwardsville, Ill.

McKendree won nine-straight matches after losing the opening match at 125 pounds. Sophomores Ryan Strope (Westphalia, Mo., Fatima) and Darren Wynn (Champaign, Ill., Centennial) both earned tech fall wins at 133 and 141 pounds, before junior Trent Williams (Stillwater, Okla., Perry) won a 13-3 major decision at 149 pounds to hold a 14-4 lead. Senior Josh Ballard (Troy, Ill., Triad) won a 9-5 decision over Roark Whittington at 157 pounds and fellow senior Nick Haferkamp (Lincoln, Ill., Lincoln Community) followed with a 20-6 major decision at 165 pounds to extend the lead to 21-4. The Bearcats got another decision win at 174 pounds, before senior John Vogt (Festus, Mo., Ste. Genevieve) pinned Ryan Ward in 2:53 to take a 30-4 lead. A major decision win by senior Julian Smith (Florissant, Mo., Hazelwood Central) at 197 pounds and a major decision victory by sophomore Coltyn Pease (Pittsfield, Ill., Pittsfield) at heavyweight closed out the dual 39-4.
