(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 18)- The McKendree University women's soccer team used two goals in the second half on Sunday to earn a 2-0 win over Maryville University.
The Bearcats improve to 7-5-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will travel to Quincy, Ill., to play Quincy University on Friday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.
The Saints used the wind at their backs to their advantage in the first half, taking six shots in the first half and placing five of them on goal, but were not able to get anything past senior goalkeeper
Taylor Zerbe (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic). McKendree followed suit in the second half, and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman
Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, Ill./Belleville West). The Bearcats added insurance in the 87th minute with a goal by sophomore
Chelsea Whittaker (Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand/St Hilda's Collegiate School) to increase the lead to 2-0 and the eventual win.
Zerbe had nine saves in the victory and improved to 7-5-3 on the season.
