(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 13)--
The McKendree University men's volleyball team will wrap up its longest home stand of the 2015 season with a trio of matches this weekend at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. The Bearcats will square off twice against Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) foe Grand Canyon University Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on King University in a non-conference affair Sunday at 1 p.m.

McKendree snapped a three-match losing streak in impressive fashion on Tuesday with a three-set sweep over Culver-Stockton College. Sophomore Wyatt Patterson (Flossmoor, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) turned in a record-setting performance during the win as he put down 15 kills on 17 attack attempts without an error. Patterson's .882 hitting percentage established a new record for the Bearcats, who are in their second year of play as a program. Freshman Brendan Schmidt (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) also reached double figures in kills with 10 and added three service aces during the Bearcats' win on Tuesday.

The win over Culver-Stockton boosted the Bearcats' season record to 4-8. McKendree is in search of its first MIVA victory as it brings an 0-5 league record into the two matches this weekend with Grand Canyon. The Antelopes are 5-4 on the year and are also winless in the MIVA at 0-2. Last weekend, Grand Canyon was defeated in a pair of conference matches at home by third-ranked Lewis University. Head coach Jeremy Price will turn to junior Ryan Mather to help pace the Antelopes' attack this weekend. Mather leads the team with 141 kills and has also added 60 digs and 24 blocks. Sophomore Michael Milstein has handed out 177 assists on the year, while junior Tanner Maxwell is close behind with 125 sets. Up front, junior Christian Ward has put down a team-leading 40 blocks.

McKendree and Grand Canyon met last season in non-conference play at the Statham Center, with the Antelopes taking a four-set decision on Feb. 9, 2014.

King enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-2. The Tornado has won each of its last four matches, with the last three coming in Conference Carolinas play. King will be at Quincy University on Saturday before making the trip to Lebanon for Sunday's contest. Fifth-year head coach Ryan Booher will rely on the talents of Eddie Moushikian, who has 111 kills and is averaging nearly 3.5 attacks per set. Nick Drooker has dished out 285 assists so far, while Matthew Lychock has posted 27 blocks at the net.

The teams met last season at the McKendree Crossover Classic last March. The Tornado swept past the Bearcats in three hard-fought sets on March 14, 2014 at the Statham Center.

Following Sunday's contest, McKendree will be on the road for a pair of MIVA matches Feb. 20 at Ball State University and Feb. 21 at IPFW.
