Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 26)- The McKendree University women's basketball team closed out its 2014-15 season on Thursday night in a 56-46 loss to University of Illinois Springfield.
The Bearcats finished the season with an overall record of 2-24 and a 1-17 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Sophomore
Gabrielle Williams (Minooka, Ill./Plainfield East) led all players with 21 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while senior
Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) added 10 points. Her 10 points increased her career total to 1,533 points, passing Kari Crnkovich for fifth place in school history. She also ends her career as the program's all-time leader in three-pointers with 205. Fellow senior
Haeley Kreisel (Warsaw, Mo./Warsaw) also finished her collegiate career with four rebounds, and assist and a block in the game.
The first half had six lead changes and neither team ever led by more than four points. The Prairie Stars led 21-17 with 2:50 left in the half, but McKendree battled back and took a 24-23 lead at the half with a layup by sophomore
Amber Alexander (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North). The Bearcats held onto their lead for the first four minutes of the second half, but Illinois Springfield took a 36-34 lead at the 14:36 mark. McKendree tied the game three times over the next seven minutes, but the Prairie Stars held on down the stretch.
