Box Score (GAFFNEY, S.C., March 8)--The McKendree University men's volleyball team pushed its season high win streak to three consecutive matches by storming to a three-set sweep of Limestone College on Sunday in Gaffney, S.C. The Bearcats rolled to victory by scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-20.
McKendree hit .643 in the first set and never looked back in pushing its record to 8-12 overall. The Bearcats will wrap up their three-match road trip down south on Monday with a non-conference contest at Lees-McRae College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Sophomore middle blocker
Wyatt Patterson (Flossmoor, IL/Homewood-Flossmoor) led the way for McKendree with eight kills against Limestone. Freshman opposite
Jared Wilcox (Warrenville, IL/Wheaton-Warrenville South) added five attacks as freshman middle blocker
Brendan Schmidt (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) and sophomore outside hitter
Eric Abrolat (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) each contributed four kills. Freshman setters
Pasquale Fiduccia (Hanover Park, IL/Glenbard North) and
Ian Zalewski (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) combined for 26 assists in the win, with Fiduccia handing out 14. Fiduccia also handled five digs to pace the Bearcats.
Sophomore right-side hitter
Maalik Walker (Shorewood, IL/Minooka) served up three aces in the match. As a team, the Bearcats posted 12 aces against the Saints.
McKendree trailed just one time in the three sets, which came on the opening point of the match. The Bearcats then scored eight of the next nine points to build an 8-2 advantage. A 7-1 run pushed the margin to 15-3 as McKendree cruised to the early lead in the match. McKendree opened the second set in similar fashion, scoring the first five points of the game as part of an 11-2 run to seize control in the set. The Bearcats maintained its large lead in taking a two-set lead into the break.
Once again, McKendree roared from the gates to start the third set, scoring eight of the first nine points. Limestone battled back to within four points late in the set before the Bearcats were able to close out the sweep.
Alejandro DeMendoza led Limestone with six kills, while Nick Wildes added 11 assists and four digs for the Saints.
