Baseball Bats Held in Check as Indianapolis Sweeps Doubleheader from Bearcats

Zach Klockowski provided the Bearcats' offense at Indianapolis with a two-run home run in game one
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., April 11)—The McKendree University baseball team was defeated twice at the hands of the University of Indianapolis on Saturday. The host Greyhounds edged the Bearcats 3-2 in the opener before right-hander Jordan Tackett tossed a no-hitter against McKendree in game two to post a 5-0 decision.

The losses send McKendree to 7-23 overall and 6-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats and Greyhounds will wrap up a four-game weekend series on Sunday with a doubleheader at Greyhound Park. First pitch is set for noon ET.

In game one, Indianapolis (17-13, 13-7 GLVC) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning before McKendree tied the contest in the fourth. Junior shortstop Adam Kunkel (Red Bud, IL/Red Bud) reached base on a one-out walk. Two batters later, Klockowski belted his second home run of the season to right field to knot the score.

Indianapolis took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning, then held off a late rally attempt from the Bearcats in the ninth inning to preserve the win. Kunkel led off with a single and moved into scoring position following a sacrifice bunt by freshman outfielder Brad Groleau (Peru, IL/St. Bede Academy). However, the Greyhounds notched the final two outs to earn the game one victory.

Freshman right-hander Jacob Renfrow (St. Louis, MO/Hancock) threw well in defeat for McKendree. Renfrow allowed eight hits over seven innings of work. He walked just one batter and struck out two in the 92-pitch effort.

Tackett was the story in game two as he allowed just three McKendree base runners and faced just one batter over the minimum in tossing his gem. Tackett walked two batters and fanned six, needing just 73 pitches for his seven-inning no-hitter. Groleau and senior outfielder Kyle Rutledge (Bloomington, IL/Normal) drew walks for McKendree, while sophomore infielder Tyson Boehne (Carlyle, IL/Carlyle) reached base on catcher's interference.

Junior left-hander Sam Lidisky (Swansea, IL/Althoff Catholic) went the distance in taking the mound loss for McKendree in game two. Lidisky scattered six hits over six innings with three earned runs and three strikeouts. It was the fourth complete game of the season for Lidisky.
