Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio, April 2)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team won its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Thursday in a 23-6 win at Walsh University.
The Bearcats improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC and will travel to Philippi, W.V., on Saturday, April 4 to face Alderson Broaddus University at Noon.
Morgan Cremen (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) led all players with six goals and tied a school record with eight draw controls in the contest.
Mia Fiore (Eureka, Mo./Eureka High School) added five goals, while Paige Saltouse and
Bree Suter (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each had four goals.
Victoria Lelo (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) had two goals, and
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, Mo./Barat Academy) and
Rianne Holzmeyer (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) each had one goal. Salthouse also added a team-high three assists.
Amy Porta (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) improved to 8-1 overall in goal and had seven saves in the win.
McKendree opened the game with back-to-back goals before Walsh cut the score to 2-1 with just under 22 minutes to play. The Bearcats went on to score the next six goals to jump out to an 8-1 lead, but the Cavaliers ended the run with two goals to cut their deficit to 8-3. McKendree scored five goals in the final 1:40 of the first half to take a 13-3 lead into the half.
Walsh scored shortly into the second half, but the Bearcats rattled off five-straight goals to extend their lead to 18-4. McKendree outscored the Cavaliers 5-2 over the final 11 minutes of the game to come away with the 23-6 win.
