WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE SEASON STATISTICS
(LEBANON, Ill., April 3)--The McKendree University baseball team returns to Hypes Field this weekend to host the University of Wisconsin-Parkside for a pivotal four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series. The Bearcats and Rangers will tangle in a doubleheader Saturday before the teams wrap up their series with another twinbill on Easter Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon each day.
McKendree brings a 5-17 overall record and 4-10 GLVC mark into the weekend. The Bearcats closed out a 10-game road trip on Wednesday by dropping both ends of a conference doubleheader at the University of Illinois Springfield. McKendree will be in search of its first home victory of the season, entering play with an 0-6 mark at Hypes Field. The Bearcats have not played at home since a 4-3 loss in non-conference action against Maryville University on April 18.Â
Freshman outfielder
Brad Groleau (Peru, IL/St. Bede Academy) has made the most of his opportunity since joining the McKendree starting lineup on March 21 at Truman State University. Groleau currently leads the squad with a .406 batting average, adding one home run with 10 RBI during that 10-game stretch. Sophomore infielder
Tyson Boehne (Carlyle, IL/Carlyle), who had three hits in the two games at UIS on Wednesday, has pushed his batting average over the .300 mark at .316.Â
On the mound, junior right-hander
John Tolliver (Salem, IL/Salem) picked up his first win of the season in a 6-1 triumph at Lewis University on Monday. Tolliver scattered eight hits over six innings of work but allowed just one run with a walk and a strikeout.Â
ABOUT WISCONSIN-PARKSIDEThe Rangers are 6-11 on the year and 5-9 in the GLVC heading into Saturday's action. UW-Parkside split a league doubleheader Wednesday at Lewis, winning the opener 5-3 before being edged in game two, 6-5. The Rangers have a team batting average of .275, with five regulars hitting above that mark. Sophomore infeidler Nick Janssen leads the way with a .348 mark, while senior outfielder Ryan Ruediger is next at .323. The UW-Parkside staff is led by sophomore right-hander Josh Serio, who is 3-2 on the season with 40 strikeouts in 32 innings of work. Freshman lefty Tyler Jandron has posted two victories along with a 2.08 earned-run average, which is tops among pitchers in the Rangers' starting rotation.
The teams met in a four-game series to wrap up the 2014 season in Somers, Wis., with McKendree winning three of four contests.Â
