McKendree Has 10 Squads Earn Team Academic All-GLVC Honors in 2014-15

(LEBANON, Ill., June 23)—The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced its Team Academic All-GLVC recipients for 2014-15 on Tuesday, and McKendree University was once again featured prominently on the list.

For the second consecutive year, McKendree placed 10 of its programs on the Team Academic All-GLVC squad, which matches the highest total for the Bearcats in their three years as members of the conference. In fact, all 10 teams that received the Team Academic All-GLVC award in 2014-15 are repeat honorees from last year. Varsity teams for a GLVC-sponsored sport must maintain a 3.30 grade-point average for the academic year to be recognized for the award.

"Our student-athletes have demonstrated once again the commitment to being a student first at McKendree," said Chuck Brueggemann, director of athletics at McKendree. "They have dedicated many hours to honing their craft in their chosen sport, but have put in even more time to maintain the lofty academic standards they have set for themselves. We are proud to have so many teams recognized collectively for their commitment to being the best representatives of McKendree University both athletically and academically."

Half of the 10 teams recognized at McKendree attained at least a 3.5 GPA for the 2014-15 academic year. Women's golf led the way this year by boasting a cumulative 3.59 GPA.  The Bearcats' women's tennis team was next at 3.57, followed by women's soccer (3.55), volleyball (3.53) and women's cross country (3.50). Also earning a spot on the 2014-15 Team Academic All-GLVC team from McKendree were softball (3.47), men's tennis (3.43), women's basketball (3.43), baseball (3.35) and women's track and field (3.30).

The 10 teams honored at McKendree was part of a GLVC-record 119 programs that collected Team Academic All-GLVC accolades for 2014-15. McKendree was also one of five institutions to reach double figures in the number of teams to reach the honor. Drury University had a GLVC-high 12 programs that received the award, followed by Maryville University with 11 teams. McKendree finished in a tie for third with Lewis University and Saint Joseph's College by placing 10 programs on the list this year.
