(LEBANON, Ill., Sep. 20)- The McKendree University men's soccer team had its upset bid thwarted in overtime on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to No. 22 Rockhurst University.

THe Bearcats fall to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and will travel to Springfield, Mo., on Friday for a conference match at Drury University at 7:30 p.m.

McKendree was fouled in the box in the 20th minute and was awarded a penalty kick opportunity. Senior Jan Peters (Suedergellersen, Germany/Gymnasium Oedeme) beat the Hawks goalkeeper to the right side to put the Bearcats in front 1-0.

Rockhurst tied the game 1-1 in the 62nd minute, and stayed knotted up to force the game to overtime. The Hawks ended the game in the 96th minute with a goal to make the score 2-1.

Senior goalkeeper Scott Armistead (Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Peter's College) fell to 3-2 overall and grabbed a career-high 11 saves in the loss.
