(OAKLAND CITY, Ind., Sep. 6)- The McKendree University men's soccer team lost its season opener on Sunday at Oakland City University 2-1 in overtime.
The Bearcats fall to 0-1 overall and will open up Great Lakes Valley Conference play at home on Friday, Sep. 11 against Bellarmine University at 7:30 p.m.
McKendree got on the board first in the contest and took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by
Felipe Thompson (Santiago, Chile/Hurricane High School) off a pass from
Vijay Brahmbhatt (Belleville, Ill./Althoff Catholic High School). The Bearcats held on to their lead until the 56th minute when the Mighty Oaks tied the game in the 56th minute. The game remained tied through the end of regulation to send it to overtime, but Oakland City ended the game with a goal in the 97th minute to end the game 2-1.
Scott Armistead (Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Peter's College) fell to 0-1 on the season and had one save in the loss.
