(JACKSON, Tenn., Sep. 7)- The McKendree University women's soccer team earned its first win of the season on Monday in a 2-0 non-conference win at Union University (Tenn.).

The Bearcats improved to 1-0-1 overall and will host Bellarmine University on Friday, Sep. 11 for a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at 5 p.m.

McKendree wasted little time getting on the scoreboard and took a 1-0 lead on a free kick by Alyssa Reiniger (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville) that found the back of the net in the 3rd minute. The Bearcats held onto their lead until the half, and extended it out to 2-0 shortly into the second half on a goal by Claire Skaggs (Saint Charles, Mo./Duchesne) off an assist by Chelsea Whittaker (Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand/St Hilda's Collegiate School) in the 54th minute.

Goalkeeper Taylor Zerbe (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) posted her first shutout of the season and grabbed six saves, while improving to 1-0-1 overall on the season.
