(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 13)--
The McKendree University men's basketball team hopes to take advantage of some home court magic this week as it returns to the Harry M. Statham Sports Center this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference contests. The Bearcats will host William Jewell College Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before closing the short home stand by entertaining Rockhurst University Saturday at 3 p.m. Both games can also be seen live on the Bearcat Sports Network at www.mckbearcats.com/watch

McKendree enters its Thursday meeting with William Jewell at 7-5 overall. However, the Bearcats have won six of their seven home games so far in 2015-16, including its last outing on the Statham Center floor Jan. 2 versus Robert Morris University-Peoria, 79-70. McKendree was defeated twice in GLVC play last week in a northern road trip to Truman State University and Quincy University. The Bearcats are in search of their first league win of the season, coming into the weekend at 0-4 against GLVC foes.

Last Saturday at Quincy, the host Hawks shot 52.4 percent in the first half and pulled away for a 95-76 win over the Bearcats. David Franklin (O'Fallon, IL/Althoff Catholic) showed the way for McKendree with 19 points, while Darin Winkelman (Steeleville, IL/Steeleville) chipped in with 18 points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Michael Jackson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) also scored in double figures for the Bearcats as he posted 12 points.

Franklin has moved up to fourth place among all GLVC players in scoring at 19.1 points per game. He also ranks among league leaders in field goal percentage (.522), rebounding (6.8 RPG), assists (39) and minutes played (31.8 P/G). Winkelman is seventh in the conference in defensive rebounds at 5.2 per outing. Both Jackson (13.3 PPG) and Winkelman (10.9 PPG) are averaging in double figures in the scoring column.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
William Jewell comes to Lebanon with an overall record of 5-7. The Cardinals are winless in GLVC play at 0-4. Last weekend, William Jewell hosted Bellarmine University and the University of Southern Indiana in league play, and were defeated in both contests. Five different players average in double figures on the season, led by senior guard Darius Tomlin at 17.4 points per contest. Junior guard Matt Lassen is next at 15.5 points a game, while junior forward Austin Regier is nearly averaging a double-double at 11.3 points and a team-best nine rebounds an outing. Regier leads all GLVC players in rebounding and is sixth in the league in field goal percentage at .588.

Although the Cardinals have won three of the four meetings against the Bearcats since 1966-67, McKendree won last year's contest between the two programs. On Feb. 14, 2015 at the Statham Center, McKendree registered a 79-72 win over William Jewell. Logan Carson (DuQuoin, IL/DuQuoin) poured in a game-high 31 points to lead the way for the Bearcats, while Matt Holmes (Houston, TX/Marshall) added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. D'Vante Mosby paced the Cardinals with 18 points and a game-high 16 rebounds as Christian Hildebrandt chipped in with 13 points.

Thursday's contest will also feature a match-up of two of college basketball's winningest head coaches. McKendree's Harry Statham, who is in his 50th season at the helm of the Bearcats program, brings 1,095 wins into the game and is the all-time wins leader in men's college basketball history. On the William Jewell bench will be Larry Holley, who has collected 873 wins in his 45-year career, the last 37 of which have come with the Cardinals. Holley is just three victories shy of tying former University of Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp for 10th place on the all-time wins list.

ABOUT ROCKHURST
The Hawks will play at the University of Illinois Springfield on Thursday ahead of its Saturday contest at McKendree. Rockhurst is 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC under first-year head coach Drew Diener. The Hawks also hosted Southern Indiana and Bellarmine last weekend, dropping single-digit decisions to both teams. Senior forward Dominique Washington has appeared in just seven of the Hawks' 12 games but leads the team in scoring at 18.1 points per game. Washington is also shooting 60.7 percent from the field. Freshman guard Austin LeVan has posted 14.8 points per outing while shooting just over 90 percent from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Alex Hagan is the top shooter in GLVC play heading into the weekend, connecting on 65.2 percent of his field goal tries.

McKendree and Rockhurst have split their two meetings since the Bearcats joined the GLVC prior to the 2012-13 season. Back on Feb. 12, 2015 at the Statham Center, McKendree battled its way to an 84-78 win over Rockhurst. All five starters scored in double figures for the Bearcats, led by Michael Jackson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon)'s 21 points. Logan Carson (DuQuoin, IL/DuQuoin) added 19 points in the win. Washington led the Hawks with 19 points.

Following the brief two-game home stand, McKendree will hit the road for its next three contests in GLVC, beginning with a short trip north on Monday to square off with the University of Illinois Springfield.
