(SAINT CHARLES, Mo., Jan. 26)- The No. 19 McKendree University wrestling team had its upset bid fall short on Tuesday in a 28-12 loss No. 10 Lindenwood University.

The Bearcats fall to 6-6 overall and will face No. 3 Maryville University on Wednesday, Feb. 3 in Edwardsville, Ill., at 7 p.m.

After losses in the first two matches, McKendree got on the board with back-to-back wins at 141 and 149 pounds. Sophomore Darren Wynn (Champaign, Ill., Centennial) posted a 16-7 major decision win over Jared Mestas, and sophomore Mech Spraggins Jr. (Belleville, Ill., Belleville West High School) followed with an 8-4 decision over Colton Orlando. The Bearcats lost its next two matches, but sophomore J.J. Filipek (Warrenton, Mo., Warrenton) edged Batchka Zulkhuu in a 5-4 decision at 174 pounds to make the score 16-9. Two losses by fall created a 28-9 deficit for the Bearcats, and a 2-1 decision win by junior Coltyn Pease (Pittsfield, Ill., Pittsfield) over Jacob Borgmeyer at heavyweight ended the dual 28-12.
