(KIRKSVILLE, Mo., Jan. 7)- The McKendree University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a late rally by Truman State University in a 60-49 loss on Thursday night.
The Bearcats fall to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, and will travel to Quincy, Ill., on Saturday, Jan. 9 to face No. 19 Quincy University at 1 p.m.
Senior guard
Kelsee Ennis (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) scored 12 points to lead McKendree, while junior guard/forward
Amber Alexander (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) added a season-high 10 points.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead in the early going, but senior forward
Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) capped off a 7-0 run with a jumper to cut the deficit to 12-11 with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter. McKendree kept the game close in the second quarter, but found itself trailing 23-19 at the half.
Truman State ran out to a 30-22 lead midway through the third quarter, but the Bearcats responded again, and battled back to tie the game, 34-34, on a free throw by Pusheck with a minute left in the period. The Bulldogs outscored McKendree 14-2 over the next 4:30 to gain a 50-36 lead and held on down the stretch to earn the 60-49 win.
Ashley Hartwig led all players with 13 points for Truman State.
