(Lebanon, Ill., Oct. 21) – The McKendree University women's soccer team improved to 12-4 overall and 9-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) with their 3-2 victory over University of Southern Indiana.
With this victory the Bearcats have secured themselves a spot in the GLVC Tournament.
In the contest McKendree outshot Southern Indiana 18-10.
Kate Bixby (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North) would open up scoring for the Bearcats in the 51
st minute of play scoring her first goal of the season. Sydnee Markowski assisted on the play as she headed Bixby a ball in front of the net.
Ryley Hancock would tie the game up at 1-1 shortly after in the 53
rd minute.
In the 69
th minute,
Chelsea Whittaker (Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand/St Hilda's Collegiate School) would put the Bearcats back on top as she collected a pass from
Hailey Porter (O'Fallon, MO/Ft. Zumwalt West) off the
Alyssa Reiniger (Maryville, IL/Collinsville) throw in.
Southern Indiana would not be silenced. Ryley Hancock grabbed her second of the game off of a Kennedy Moore pass tying the match at 2-2.
Madyson Mossman (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) would prove to be the match hero as she netted the game winning goal in the 81
st minute.
In net for McKendree was
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering ). Brochu collected three saves during the contest.
The Bearcats are back in action on Sunday as they travel to Bellarmine University for a noon contest.
