(Lebanon, Ill., Oct. 9) – The McKendree University men's soccer team fell in double overtime to Drury University in a 2-1 contest. The Bearcats are now 2-5-2 overall, and 1-5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
Despite outshooting the Panthers 25-15, the Bearcats were only able to find the back of the net once.
Charles Guelly put the Panthers on the board in the 35
th minute as he collected a pass from Robin Almendares to gain the 1-0 advantage.
McKendree found a spark in the second half as Yan Peters was able to net his first goal of the season.
Marcus Taylor (Anna. Ill./Anna-Jonesboro) and
Ethan Mayberry (Mascoutah, IL/Mascoutah) assisted on the play.
At the end of regulation, the score was tied at 1-1.
In the 102th minute of play, Charles Guelly would end the match as he netted a Panther goal. Ben Bruce was credited with the assist.
In net for the Bearcats was
Eddie Starr (Columbia, IL/Columbia ). Starr totaled four saves on the day. Drury goalkeeper Nicholas Helin had a busy day in net as he faced 25 shots collecting 11 saves.
The Bearcats hit the road next weekend as they travel to Rockhurst University on Friday, October 14 for a 7:30 p.m. contest. The weekend continues as they visit William Jewell on Sunday, October 16 for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
