(PEORIA, Ill., Dec. 10) – The McKendree University D2 men's hockey team completed the sweep over Robert Morris University – Peoria with a 6-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
With this win the Bearcats extend their winning streak to eight, with an overall record of 13-3.
McKendree opened the scoring in the first period, when freshman defenseman
Nick Gay (Pinedale, WY/Pinedale HS) netted his first goal of the season on a pass from sophomore forward
Lazar Lestaric (Belgrade, Serbia/Sesta). Freshman forward
Levi Armstrong (Urbana, IL/Urbana HS) opened the scoring in the second period on an unassisted power play effort. To close out the second period freshman forward
Dominic Naas (Neurensdorf, Zurich, Switzerland/KV Zurich Business School) found the back of the net twice to give McKendree a commanding four goal lead. Naas scored his first goal at the 11:30 mark on a pass from junior forward
Billy Lamb (St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's HS). His second goal came on the power play on a pass from senior defenseman
Steve Csanyi (Belleville, Ontario, Canada/Nicholson) and
Levi Armstrong (Urbana, IL/Urbana HS). Junior forward
Jacob Young (Arnold, MO/Fox) opened the scoring in the third period with a power play goal from junior forward Jason Beilke Jr. and sophomore forward
Kristjan Toivola (Bellingham, WA/Bellingham Blazers (NPHL)). The Eagles were eventually able to find the back of the net with 11:09 left to play to make it 5-1 in favor of the Bearcats. McKendree added one more tally before the final buzzer, which was another power play goal from the stick of Beilke Jr. Registering assists on the goal were Young and Toivola. At the close of the game the Bearcats were able to take home a 6-1 win, extending their streak to eight games.
In the game, Gay registered his first goal of the season to go along with his one assist for two points on the year. Armstrong, Young, and Beilke Jr. each found the back of the net once and registered one assist for two points in the game. Naas netted two goals in the game, to give him nine total goals on the year. Csanyi and Lamb each added one assist in the game.

Andrew Best (Midland, Ontario, Canada/Saint Theresa’s High School) stopped 26 of 27 for a save percentage of 0.963 and a goals-against average of 1.00, earning first star of the game honors from head coach
Garry Henson. Second star of the game was Gay, who netted his first goal of the season. Third star was Beilke Jr. with one goal and one assist.
