Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 20)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team lost its season opener on Saturday to No. 3 Lindenwood University 21-5.
The Bearcats fall to 0-1 overall and will hosts Rockhurst University at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Sophomore
Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led the McKendree with two goals, while fellow sophomores
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, Mo./Barat Academy) and
Mia Fiore (Eureka, Mo./Eureka High School), and freshman
Hannah Sugarman (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional High School) all added one goal. Junior goalie
Amy Porta (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) had 14 saves, but fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Lindenwood struck first with a goal in the first minute of the game, but Salthouse tied the game shortly after with a goal off a free position shot. The Bearcats took the lead, 2-1, three minutes later on an unassisted goal by DiPasquale, but the Lady Lions scored the next five goals to regain the lead 6-2. Sugarman cut the deficit in half, 6-3, with her first collegiate goal with 7:38 left in the half, but Lindenwood added four goals to take a 10-3 lead. Fiore rattled the cage with two seconds left in the half, and McKendree trailed 10-4 at the break.
Salthouse scored her second goal of the game with 22 minutes left in the contest to make the score, 14-5, but the Lady Lions scored the last seven goals of the game to end the game 21-5.
