McKENDREE SEASON STATISTICS
CARSON-NEWMAN SEASON STATISTICS

(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 24)--
The McKendree University will hit the road for a four-game, non-conference series this weekend at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn. The Bearcats and Eagles will play single games Friday and Sunday afternoon sandwiched around a Saturday doubleheader.

The Bearcats were swept in a season-opening, three-game series last weekend at Missouri Southern State University, the No. 15-ranked team by Collegiate Baseball. Freshman infielder Luke Johnson (Barrington, IL/Barrington) had a successful first weekend for McKendree, rapping out three hits in six at-bats for a .500 average. A trio of juniors -- infielder Matt Walsh (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South), outfielder Ryan Cates (Anderson, IN/Yorktown) and catcher Chris Deaville (Rantoul, IL/Rantoul) -- each drove in a pair of runs against the Lions. Junior infielder Isaac Fisher (Washington, IL/Washington) -- who led the Bearcats' football program in rushing yards in 2015 -- showed off his running skills on the basepaths by scoring three times at Missouri Southern.

ABOUT CARSON-NEWMAN
While McKendree played its first three games of the 2016 season last weekend, the Eagles already have 10 contests under their belt. Carson-Newman is 5-5 on the year, winning four of five contests at home. The Bearcats are visiting Carson-Newman in the midst of a 10-game home stand for the Eagles. Brandon Roberts leads the team in batting average at .410. Roberts also shares the team lead with three home runs while driving in a team-best 10 runs. He is one of four starters hitting above .250 in the young season for Carson-Newman.

On the mound, Vince Apicella has a 2-1 record. In his three starts, Apicella has struck out 22 batters in 18 innings of work. Ryan Eberle, who has made three starts in his four appearances, has fanned 17 batters over his first 21 innings.

This will be the first time the Bearcats have faced Carson-Newman during McKendree head coach Jim Boehne's 19-year tenure.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Bearcats are slated to open the home portion of their 2016 schedule next weekend (March 5-6) with a three-game, non-conference series against Great Lakes Conference foe Missouri S&T. The Bearcats and Miners will tangle next Saturday (March 5) in a doubleheader before closing out the weekend with a single contest next Sunday (March 6). That series will kick off a season-long 11-game home stand for McKendree.
