(JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn., Feb. 28)—The McKendree University baseball team was defeated Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn., 13-4.
The Bearcats rapped out a season-high 11 hits but could not overcome the 15-hit attack of the host Eagles. McKendree slips to 0-7 on the season and will open the home portion of its 2016 schedule Saturday afternoon by playing host to Missouri S&T in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch at Hypes Field is set for noon.

Carson-Newman (9-5) answered with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1, then scored three runs each in the third and fourth innings to extend its advantage to 7-1.
After the Eagles added another tally in the fifth for an 8-1 lead, McKendree scored three times in the top of the sixth to cut its deficit in half. Junior infielder
Isaac Fisher (Washington, IL/Washington) started the rally with a one-out single. Two batters later, Anderson drilled a pitch over the left-field fence to bring the Bearcats within 8-3. Davault and junior infielder
Tyson Boehne (Carlyle, IL/Carlyle) each followed with singles before junior catcher
Chris Deaville (Rantoul, IL/Rantoul) delivered Davault with a run-scoring single.
Carson-Newman sealed the victory by plating a run in the bottom of the sixth and four more in the eighth to complete the weekend sweep of McKendree. The Eagles hit four home runs in Sunday's contest.
