Women's Lacrosse Defeats Indianapolis 12-6, Stays Unbeaten In Conference Play

(LEBANON, Ill., March 22)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play following a 12-6 win over University of Indianapolis on Tuesday.

The Bearcats improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC, and will travel to Allendale, Mich., on Friday for a conference game against No. 8 Grand Valley State University at 2 p.m. ET.

Sophomore Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led all players with four goals and also tallied one assist in the win. Fellow sophomore Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, Mo./Barat Academy) scored two goals and set a new school record with five assists. Her seven points in the game is also tied for third all-time in school history for a single game. Sophomore Mia Fiore (Eureka, Mo./Eureka High School) and freshman Hannah Sugarman (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional High School) also both scored two goals, while senior Rianne Holzmeyer (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) and freshman Emily Nelson (Deephaven, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) each scored one goal. Senior Shirley Boland (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led all players with six ground balls and four draw controls. Junior Amy Porta (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) had 15 saves in the win and improved to 3-3 overall this season.

McKendree started fast by scoring the first five goals of the game, but the Greyhounds cut their deficit to 5-2 with back-to-back goals with 12:05 left in the first half. The Bearcats answered with three goals, including two by Sugarman, to extend their lead to 8-2, before Indianapolis scored with 23-seconds left to cut the score to 8-3 at the half. McKendree scored three of its four second-half goals in a 10 minute span n the middle of the second half to remain in control and earn the 12-6 win.
