Box Score (ALLENDALE, Mich., March 25)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team lost its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match of the season on Friday in a 23-11 loss at No. 8 Grand Valley State University.
The Bearcats fall to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC, and will host No. 20 Florida Tech for a non-conference match on Monday, March 28 at 4 p.m.
Sophomore
Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led McKendree with five goals and an assist, while
Bree Suter (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) scored three goals.
Rianne Holzmeyer (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West),
Mia Fiore (Eureka, Mo./Eureka High School) and
Hannah Sugarman (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional High School) also each scored one goal, while
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, Mo./Barat Academy) had two assists.Fiore also had fve draw controls and Sugarman picked up five ground balls. Goalie
Amy Porta (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) made 14 saves in the loss and fell to 3-4 on the season.
Salthouse's first goal of the game tied things up, 1-1, four minutes into the game, but the Lakers scored eight-straight to jump out to a 9-1 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half. McKendree scored four goals in four minutes to cut the score to 12-7, but GVSU scored with 36-seconds left in the half to lead 13-7 at the break. Another goal by Salthouse cut the deficit to 13-8 early in the half, but the Lakers scored seven unanswered goals to take a 20-8 lead with 16 minutes to play. The Bearcats cut it to 23-11 with two minutes left, but were unable to rattle the cage again in the loss.
