Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., April 29)—The McKendree University lacrosse team dropped a 13-12 decision to the University of Findlay Friday evening in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up.
The loss dips the Bearcats to 8-8 overall and 6-5 in the GLIAC. McKendree returns to action Sunday in its regular season finale against league foe Tiffin University.
The Bearcats were paced offensively by sophomore attacker
Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) who netted five goals and two assists. Sophomore attacker
Mia Fiore (Eureka, Mo./Eureka High School) along with freshman attacker
Emily Nelson (Deephaven, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) and freshman midfielder
Hannah Sugarman (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional High School). Sophomore attacker
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, Mo./Barat Academy) tallied one goal and one assists for the McKendree.
Junior goaltender
Amy Porta (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) posted 10 saves on 23 shots for the Bearcats.
The Oilers jumped out in front to an early 3-0 lead before Sugarman put McKendree on the scoreboard. The teams traded goals as Findlay held their three goal margin at 7-4, with Salthouse tabbing back to back goals to cut the lead to 7-5, but the Oilers stopped the bleeding, scoring with just eight seconds remaining in the first half to hold their three-goal lead heading into intermission.
Salthouse opened the scoring in the second half as she tallied a pair of goals with another score from Fiore sandwiched in as the Bearcats cut the deficit to 10-8. Findlay rattled off three straight goals to push ahead by five with just under ten minutes remaining. McKendree roared back scoring two goals in less than a minute coming from the sticks of Sugarman and Dipasquale. Three minutes later the Bearcats did it again as Nelson and Fiore scored just 22 seconds apart as McKendree pulled within one. The Bearcats could not overcome the early hole however and fell to the Oilers by a goal.
