(LEBANON, Ill., April 8)--
The McKendree University baseball team returns home to Hypes Field this weekend to play host to the University of Indianapolis in a four-game, Great Lakes Valley Conference weekend series. The contests were originally slated for Saturday and Sunday, but inclement weather in the Sunday forecast has moved to the games up a day. The Bearcats and Greyhounds will battle in doubleheaders Friday and Saturday with first pitch coming at noon each day.

McKendree was scheduled to open the week on Wednesday against Maryville University at Hypes Field, but that contest was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for April 20. The Bearcats are 10-17 overall and hold a 2-6 mark in the GLVC. McKendree will be looking to build on its 8-4 record at Hypes Field this season against the Greyhounds. McKendree was swept in a four-game series last weekend in Louisville, Ky., against Bellarmine University. Two of the four games were decided by just one run, while another had a two-run margin of victory for the host Knights. The Bearcats enter the Indianapolis series with a team batting average of .280, which is good for 12th in the league. Junior first baseman Keith Rogers (Marshall, IL/Marshall) continues to show the way with a team-leading average of .390. Junior first baseman Matt Walsh (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton Warrenville South), who had a productive day last Sunday in the final two games of the Bellarmine series, has pushed his atverage up to .333. Freshman infielder Luke Johnson (Barrington, IL/Barrington) (.319) and junior catcher Chris Deaville (Rantoul, IL/Rantoul) (.313) are the other McKendree starters batting above .300 through 27 games.

Junior right-hander Ryan Cates (Anderson, IN/Yorktown) continues to lead the Bearcats' staff with three victories despite taking the loss in the series opener at Bellarmine. Senior lefty Josh Tonozzi (Mark, IL/Putnam County), who made just his second start of the season in game two against the Knights, was on the short end of the 2-0 contest last week. Tonozzi is 2-1 overall with a 3.20 ERA.

ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS
The Greyhounds begin the weekend atop the standings in the GLVC East Division. Indianapolis is 6-2 against conference foes and 19-7 on the season. The Greyhounds took three of four games last weekend at home from Lewis University, scoring 40 runs during the course of the weekend. UIndy sits third in the GLVC in team batting average at .329, while the Greyhounds' 4.35 earned-run average is good for sixth in the conference.

Freshman infielder Kyle Orloff has made an impact early in his Indianapolis career as he leads the team with a .426 batting average at 36 RBI entering the weekend. Orloff is also tied for the team lead with five home runs. Senior infielder Anthony Asalon has hit .411 so far in 2016 with five round-trippers and 21 runs batted in. On the mound, senior right-hander Matthew Kaplanis is a perfect 6-0 with a 3.43 ERA and two complete games in seven starts. Kaplanis has struck out 41 batters in 44 2/3 innings of work. Junior righty Jake Shaw, who is 3-2 with a 4.60 earned-run average, has fanned a team-leading 47 batters.
