Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., May 6) – The McKendree University lacrosse team dropped their semifinal matchup in the second round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to Grand Valley State University Friday evening in Allendale, MI. The Bearcats fell by a final score of 19-8.
The loss drops McKendree to 9-10 overall.
The Bearcats were led offensively by sophomore attacker
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, Mo./Barat Academy) who tallied two goals and two assists including one free position conversion. Senior attacker
Rianne Holzmeyer (Hazelwood, Mo./Hazelwood West) and sophomore attacker
Mia Fiore (Eureka, Mo./Eureka High School) each added a pair of goals while junior attacker
Bree Suter (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and freshman midfielder
Hannah Sugarman (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional High School) contributed a goal apiece.
Junior goaltender made ten saves on 29 shots for the Bearcats.
The Lakers opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the game as Grand Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Holzmeyer was able to get McKendree on the board at the 26:59 mark. The Lakers continued the scoring outburst with three straight goals until DiPasquale was able to strike back to trim the deficit to three. McKendree was unable to stem the tide as Grand Valley closed out the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 13-2 at the half.
After surrendering a pair of goals to open the half the Bearcats would return the fire with a balanced attack as McKendree scored five goals with each coming from a different Bearcat. The Lakers scored a pair of goals to push the lead back to ten with 7:14 remaining and McKendree would only find the back of the net once more falling by 11.
