(Lebanon, Ill., Sept. 2) - The McKendree University women's soccer kicked off the 2016 season with a 2-1 victory over Union University (Tenn.) in the Bearcats 2016 season opener.

Union University struck first in the early minutes of the first half as Sarah Hershbain found the back of the net.

The Bearcat offense rallied back after striking midway through the first half as Alyssa Reininger found the back of the net off of an assist from Rachel Ford (Trenton, IL/Wesclin).

After a 1-1 tie heading into the break, teams traded shots but starting goal keepers Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering ) for McKendree and Kristen Francis for Union held strong.

McKendree would break the tie completing the come from behind win with Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West)'s goal in the 85^th minute off an Alyssa Reininger throw in.

In net for the McKendree was Brochu, who collected her first win as a Bearcat with four saves. Kristen Francis collected seven saves for Union.

The Bearcats will return to action on Sunday to wrap up their non-conference schedule against Oakland City University. Kickoff is set for noon.
