(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 22) – The McKendree University women's soccer team continues Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend hosting University of Indianapolis Friday at 5 p.m. before taking on Saint Joseph's College Sunday at noon.
McKendree enters the weekend with a 4-2 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the GLVC. The Bearcats split last weekend with a 1-0 win over Maryville last Friday before dropping a 2-0 decision to University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Amanda Williams (Rochester, IL/Rochester) was the only goal scorer last weekend for the Bearcats, picking up her second of the season in Friday's triumph.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS: University of Indianapolis enters the weekend at 3-3 overall and holds a 2-2 record in GLVC play. The Greyhounds played their first home matches of the year last weekend, going 1-1 with a shutout win over William Jewell College before falling 2-1 to nationally-ranked Rockhurst University. Entering the weekend out scoring their opponents 23-7, Indianapolis leads the conference in goals scored. Offensively, the Greyhounds' returning starters Stephanie Burdsall and Sierra Singer have netted four goals each. Along with three assists, Burdsall currently leads the GLVC in points with 11.
Last meeting: October 11, 2015. A goal early in the match from
Danielle Hareb (Flatbush, New Zealand/Mount Albert) was not enough to hold off the Greyhounds. Sierra Singer found the back of the net a few minutes into the second half to make it 1-1. Despite being outshot 11-1 in second half McKendree was able to force extra time. The extra 10 minutes were not enough to decide a winner ending the match in a 1-1 tie.
All-Time Record vs. UINDY: 2-0-2
SCOUTING THE PUMAS: Saint Joseph's College enters the weekend in search of its first win of the season. The Pumas were shutout last Friday by Rockhurst and registered a scoreless draw against William Jewell College on Sunday. Entering the weekend 0-2-2 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play the Pumas also look to tally their first goal since September 11. In between the posts Melissa Kuhar has registered 400 minutes of play while picking up a GLVC-best 55 saves. Kuhar is averaging 13.75 saves per game.
Last meeting: October 9, 2015. The McKendree offense started out slow on the chilly October evening in Rensselaer, Ind., but
Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) heated things up with a goal in the 35th minute. McKendree would out shoot Saint Joseph's College 12-1 in the second half which led to a goal from
Alyssa Patterson (Troy, Ill./Triad) extending the Bearcat lead. The McKendree defense played just as well by not allowing a shot on goal in the contest. With a combination of a hot offense and defense the Bearcats were able to pick up a 2-0 win.
All-Time Record vs. SJC: 4-0-1
MCKENDREE VS THE "HOOSIER" STATE: The McKendree women's soccer program holds a 17-6-4 all-time record against teams from the state of Indiana. McKendree has faced-off against seven different Indiana-based institutions since 1994. The last loss came on October 19, 2012 as the Bearcats were shutout at home by the University of Southern Indiana 3-0.
GLVC STANDINGS: McKendree sits in seventh place of the current GLVC standings. The Bearcats were picked to finish ninth according to the pre-season GLVC polls as voted on by the conference coaches. The top eight teams in the conference advance to play in the 2016 GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Quarterfinal matches will be played on October 30 at campus before the final four will play at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis on November 4 and 6.
THIS DAY IN BEARCAT HISTORY: September 23, 2006. McKendree would pick up four goals in the span of 16 minutes en route to a 4-0 victory over William Woods University. The win was part of a 13-game win streak that sent the Bearcats into the NAIA post-season. During the 2006 season McKendree would claim a NAIA Region V crown against Graceland University, but would fall to Martin Methodist University in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. The Bearcats were ranked in the NAIA Top 25 all season long as head coach
Tim Strange called his squad one of "the best team [he's] ever had at McKendree."
