(ERIE, Penn., Oct. 15) – The McKendree University men's water polo team fell to Salem International University 20-6, on Sunday at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division II Championships.
With the loss McKendree falls to 4-14 on the season. The Bearcats took on Salem International University for the final contest of the CWPA Division II Championships at 10 a.m. EST on Sunday.
The Tigers came out strong notching five goals in the first quarter while holding the Bearcats off the scoreboard. Salem International added five more in the second quarter while holding McKendree to just one goal by sophomore attacker
Jarad Wahl (St. Louis, MO/Oakville High School). The Tigers kept applying pressure to McKendree in the third quarter, scoring four times to the Bearcats two. McKendree's third quarter goals came from sophomore attacker
Izaya Owotor (Portland, OR/David Douglas High School) and freshman utility player
Sean Legg (Ottawa, Ontario). The Bearcats trailed 14-3 heading into the final quarter. Legg added two more goals in the fourth quarter and Owotor added another of his own, but McKendree came up short falling 20-6 to Salem International University.
Two McKendree players were named to the 2017 CWPA Division II Championship All-Tournament team. Both sophomore attacker
Joseph Mahan (Corinth, TX/John H Guyer High School) and sophomore attacker
Luc Gregory (Laguna Beach, CA/Laguna Beach High School) were name to the All-Tournament team for outstanding play during the tournament.
The Bearcats are back in action for a home contest against Washington University – St. Louis on Saturday, October 21
st at 5 p.m.
