(REDLANDS, Calif., Oct. 5) – The McKendree University men's water polo team kicked off this week's action at the University of Redlands, falling by a final score of 20-3.
The Bearcats were outmatched by a strong Bulldogs squad, who are ranked No. 7 in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Men's Division III and receiving votes for CWPA Men's Varsity Top 20. With the loss McKendree moves to 3-8 on the season.
The Bearcats were held off the board in the first and third quarters, but were able to find the back of the Bulldogs' net in the second and fourth quarters. McKendree's first marker came from sophomore attacker
Joseph Mahan (Corinth, TX/John H Guyer High School) in the second quarter. The Bearcats' received goals from sophomore attacker
Michael Krause (St. Louis, MO/Saint Louis University High School) and Mahan in the fourth quarter. The University of Redlands was able to take down McKendree by a final score of 20-3.
McKendree begins play in the Gary Troyer Tournament on Friday at Axelrood Pool at 2:15 p.m. PST against CalBaptist, followed up by a matchup against Whittier College at 6 p.m. PST. Saturday the Bearcats will play two contests at Haldeman Pool, the first comes against CalTech at 8 a.m. PST with the second at 2:15 p.m. PST against Pomona-Pitzer.
