(ERIE, Penn., Nov. 4) – The McKendree University men's water polo team fell 14-10 to Salem International University on Saturday afternoon in Erie, PA. at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Western Region Championships.
 
The Bearcats fall to 6-17 on the season with the loss. The Bearcats are set to face Connecticut College on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. EST in the fifth place game.
 
McKendree trailed 4-2 after the first quarter of play, with sophomore attacker Luc Gregory scoring both goals for the Bearcats in the quarter. The Tigers continued to apply pressure on the Bearcats in the second quarter, allowing just one goal and scoring five to take a 9-3 lead into half time.  The Bearcats lone goal of the quarter came from sophomore attacker Joseph Mahan.
 
The Bearcats turned it around in the third quarter outscoring the Tigers 3-1, with two goals from Mahan and one from sophomore attacker Daniel Peralta. After three quarters McKendree still trailed by a score of 10-6. The teams traded goals in the final frame, with each team netting four goals a side. McKendree received two goals from sophomore attacker Jackson Smith, and one goal each from freshman utility player Sean Legg and Gregory.
 
McKendree is set to play in the fifth place game against Connecticut College on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. EST.
